Summary

At first glance, Noel Niihashi seems like your average Braxton high school student。But, there’s much more than that below the surface。Reverse London exists just beyond the city everyone knows。 The purpose of this underground city is the management of dragons。 See, dragons have existed for a long time。 They’re quite hostile to humans。 Though, some are less dangerous than others。 They can be tamed and used for functional purposes。 Regardless, regular humans aren’t supposed to interact with dragons At first glance, Noel Niihashi seems like your average Braxton high school student。But, there’s much more than that below the surface。Reverse London exists just beyond the city everyone knows。 The purpose of this underground city is the management of dragons。 See, dragons have existed for a long time。 They’re quite hostile to humans。 Though, some are less dangerous than others。 They can be tamed and used for functional purposes。 Regardless, regular humans aren’t supposed to interact with dragons。 Most humans can’t even see them。That is, unless you’re a dragon hunter like Noel。Noel is a dragon hunter in training — a member of the Wing Bind Pipers。 Along with her frenemy, Ninny Spangcole — who is a pop star in the human world, the two hunt down dragons and ensure humans keep far away from them。Unfortunately, when a persistent suitor of Noel’s, Balgo, gets himself wrapped up in unsavory dragon business, he makes himself and, by extension, Noel and Ninny, targets for extermination。See, humans aren’t supposed to know about dragons —interaction is punishable by death。 Knowledge is dangerous。 Dragons can be used to serve dangerous ends。 Exterminating anyone involved nips problems in the bud, before they can flourish。But, Noel doesn’t want to let Balgo die。 It’s not right。 Which means they are now all at odds with the upper echelon of Reverse London。 So, on its face, this sounds like a super interesting story。 We’ve got magic and dragons and a secret, mirror world of our own — heck yeah, that sounds sick! But, this story is kind of “meh”?To be honest, it’s not the level of storytelling I’d expect from Kubo。 This seems rushed and mismatched, full of half-baked plot points。 To be fair, it’s the first volume。 But, also, to be fair, this is the creator of Bleach。 I expect more。That said, the art and world-building is pretty on par for what I’d want from Kubo。 The character designs and dragon illustrations are beautiful and fleshed out。 There’s not an ugly panel in this story。Anyway, I’d read more because this is Kubo but, if it were anyone else, this would be a dud for me~ 。。。more

London, Reverse London, Dragons, Dragonclad, Witches and civilians。 Ehay could go wrong?Such a gripping read。 I really liked it, different to what I normally read but I enjoyed it and I can't wait for the second one to be released。 London, Reverse London, Dragons, Dragonclad, Witches and civilians。 Ehay could go wrong?Such a gripping read。 I really liked it, different to what I normally read but I enjoyed it and I can't wait for the second one to be released。 。。。more

This feels a little Harry Potter-ish, with another world hidden behind the one we know full of magic and mystical creatures。 I still haven't figured out, or come across the reason it's called 'Burn the Witch' yet。 On the plus side, Tite Kubo is one of those artists with a recognizable style, but can still make sure the characters all look different from the ones in other series。 Not everyone can pull that off。 This feels a little Harry Potter-ish, with another world hidden behind the one we know full of magic and mystical creatures。 I still haven't figured out, or come across the reason it's called 'Burn the Witch' yet。 On the plus side, Tite Kubo is one of those artists with a recognizable style, but can still make sure the characters all look different from the ones in other series。 Not everyone can pull that off。 。。。more

Burn the Witch did take a moment to get up and start sprinting and I like that it did! Noel and Ninny are some funny characters, classic of Kubo's humor。 I'm curious to see how this series will play out, now that Kubo has the time to write and draw。 Burn the Witch did take a moment to get up and start sprinting and I like that it did! I loved Bulgo's casual enthusiasm and hated his sexism。 The differences between the two main characters worked well。 The boss character seems to have an interesting backstory but he's just very chill in this volume。 The actions scenes were sometimes hard to decipher, and the way the main characters were dressed got old fast。This world seems very promising, but the things that annoy me about the story will likely continue to be a problem。 I may grab volume 2 if I see it at the library but I don't I loved Bulgo's casual enthusiasm and hated his sexism。 The differences between the two main characters worked well。 The boss character seems to have an interesting backstory but he's just very chill in this volume。 The actions scenes were sometimes hard to decipher, and the way the main characters were dressed got old fast。This world seems very promising, but the things that annoy me about the story will likely continue to be a problem。 I may grab volume 2 if I see it at the library but I don't intend to seek it out。 。。。more

Note: This is my rating and review for the entire series。I would give this a 1。5/5 stars。 This is a Bleach side-story that, to me, fails to capture the essence of what Bleach was。 It’s fine to be different, but it never was anything engaging for me。 I’m sure massive Bleach fans will probably enjoy this though。

Tite Juno’s works would be perfect to me if only there wasn’t fan service…

Frank Chillura (OhYouRead)

I really wanted to love this。 I was really excited for it, but something was missing。 I enjoyed Balgo and Osushi for the comic relief, but this just felt really reminiscent of Fire Force。 The dragons were kinda cool and the fact that there are two Londons (Front and Reverse)。 Maybe the second volume will be better? I truly hope so。 It has some work to do to make up for this one。😬🫠

I didn't realize this was from Kubo when I bought it because the special cover used crosses for Ts which messed with my dyslexia。 That does however explain the ridiculous twice the usual price for this。 I wish I could say it was worth it but no, it really wasn't。 In theory this is set in the Bleach universe but you can't tell it (nor do I see why what would be necessary)。Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole are magic users who work with a group called Wing Bind in 'Reverse London' (as opposed to th I didn't realize this was from Kubo when I bought it because the special cover used crosses for Ts which messed with my dyslexia。 That does however explain the ridiculous twice the usual price for this。 I wish I could say it was worth it but no, it really wasn't。 In theory this is set in the Bleach universe but you can't tell it (nor do I see why what would be necessary)。Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole are magic users who work with a group called Wing Bind in 'Reverse London' (as opposed to the actual London I guess, in this alt verse they have magic but they can cross back and forth between the two)。 It opens with Baldo (who borders on creepy stalkerish) flirting with Noel only to find out his dog and his best friend are technically 'dragons,' which has no infected him and making him a beacon for other dragons and paranormal mischief。And here's where the world building starts to come off the rails almost immediately。 Even though this isn't Baldo's fault and he had no knowledge of it, he's to be killed for it。 Noel and Ninny do get a temporary stay of execution but only barely。 The rest is a mishmash of fighting monsters, inter organizational politics and some character development。None of it however made me want to read more (especially if the twice the price thing continues) Noel and Ninny do get some character development but it's in broad strokes (but for the guys there is plenty of fan service with their outfits and Noel's Orihime big boobs of doom)。 I don't really see me following this one。 I didn't even think the art was up to Kubo's usual standards。 That said, he remarked he was getting to work at his OWN pace (the manga industry is pretty brutal from what I've researched in that department) so maybe he'll have time to develop some of the world building and characters but I get the feeling this one isn't for me。 。。。more

I enjoyed this one! The world is kind of weird but I liked the different dragon creatures。 I am interested to see where it goes next。 My main issue that brought this one down to three stars was the way it was sometimes hard to tell who was talking and what they were even talking about。 It was like there were commercial breaks and we came back in a couple minutes into the next part, if that makes sense。 But overall I enjoyed it。

The only reason I don't give a 5 it's because it's a 1shot and this really deserved more。 It really had the potential, but I guess it was just a warmup for bleach。 The only reason I don't give a 5 it's because it's a 1shot and this really deserved more。 It really had the potential, but I guess it was just a warmup for bleach。 。。。more

Burn the Witch is a spin-off set within the Bleach universe, however this time we follow witches and wizards dealing with dragons, rather than the Soul Reapers。 I quite enjoyed the first 48 volumes of Bleach, but thought it could've been better, however its designs and abilities kept me reading。 The same can be said for this initial volume of the new series。 I hoped the story would grip me towards the end of the book, as it didn't initially, and even as I finished it, I didn't feel an urgent nee Burn the Witch is a spin-off set within the Bleach universe, however this time we follow witches and wizards dealing with dragons, rather than the Soul Reapers。 I quite enjoyed the first 48 volumes of Bleach, but thought it could've been better, however its designs and abilities kept me reading。 The same can be said for this initial volume of the new series。 I hoped the story would grip me towards the end of the book, as it didn't initially, and even as I finished it, I didn't feel an urgent need to continue。 That being said however, Tite Kubo's designs and ideas are always fascinating, and I have faith that the story will flourish with a bit more fleshing out, and I look forward to the next one。 I'd probably recommend this for anyone who's a fan of Bleach, however I would definitely also read it if you think it sounds up your alley。Overall, a solid average start。3/5 Stars。 。。。more

Bleach's Tite Kubo returns with a series that, from my understanding, is even a part of Bleach's universe! 4。5* Let me preface by saying I am a Kubo Stan。 I have been through Bleach like nobody’s business。 This is a fresh new take on a similar topic。 I love the female characters and the leader of the organization。 My only complaint is that while Bleach had the introduction arc to get you immersed before the Soul Society Arc, this jumps in。 Now mind you, this was originally a one shot that he decided to expand upon。 Can’t wait to see how it goes。
